Newness

Be

Life gets old. Time wanes on.

What used to bring excitement, fades as the newness wears off.

Life is short.

And if we aren’t cognizant of it, we will waste it.

Becoming the kind of person others want to be around takes a kind of renewal everyday.

You can’t always live full tilt.

But you can breathe life into lifelessness.

Death rears its ugly head, beckoning you to go back to sleep, to waste your days.

Don’t listen. Renewal is possible.

You just have to know where to begin.

Do

Here are some practices you can implement today to begin renewing yourself, so you can breathe life into others every day.

1. Breathe. Stop what you’re doing right now and just take three deep breaths. Slow your heart rate down. And redirect your thoughts towards something peaceful. Waves crashing on shore. Raindrops on a tin roof. Wind blowing through the trees.

2. Read. Find something in the area of either spiritual formation or personal growth and read it. Maybe it’s a devotional. Maybe it’s a stoic virtue series from Ryan Holiday. maybe it’s an inspirational book by Max Lucado. Maybe it’s a business book by John Maxwell. Whatever it is just read and fill your mind with something positive.

3. Pray/Practice Gratitude. You may not be religious, but you ARE spiritual. Everyone is. So you need to understand it is from the spirit that your life flows. Prayer isn’t just asking for things. It’s sitting in the presence of your Higher Power and letting Him love you. Letting yourself be loved, accepted, and belonging to something greater than yourself. Speak out words of Gratitude. Thank God for the good things and people in your life. Thank God for the success AND the failure. Thank God for both ecstasy and pain, ease and suffering. You’ll find that gratitude heals and sets your spirit up for a better day because it puts your mind and heart in the right place so your body can follow.

Make these 3 practices a part of your daily life and see if you don’t become less anxious, more life-giving, and much more renewed with the work you’ve done everyday. Newness is on the other side of personal renewal.

Make it your goal to breathe life into others today.
